Introduction

This step-by-step guide will demonstrate the basic operations of Elastic Desktop Service(EDS), helping you quickly activate and connect to your cloud computer service.

Step 1

Purchase EDS

The EDS purchase page offers two options: Quick Purchase and Custom Purchase. The Quick Purchase option is simpler and is suitable for users who want to quickly purchase EDS without customization needs.

We will now demonstrate how to activate the EDS service through the Quick Purchase process.

Go to the Alibaba Cloud EDS Product Page and choose Buy Now.

If you are not logged on to your Alibaba Cloud account, you will be prompted to do so. Please enter your username and password, and then choose Sign In.
To create an Alibaba Cloud account, please refer to the help documentation.

After entering the purchase page, you can select the region, operating system, type, and billing method based on your needs.

If you cannot find a suitable configuration, you can choose Custom Purchase.

We continue with the Quick Purchase example. For a monthly subscription, EDS offers three packages: 120 hours, 250 hours, and unlimited hours.

You can select the computing plan, configure the data disk capacity, choose the purchase duration, and decide whether to enable auto-renewal based on your needs.

You can create and assign users directly during the EDS purchase process. Enter the username and email of the end user, then choose Create and Add New User.

You can set the quantity of EDS instances to purchase in the bottom left corner.

After confirming that the purchase information is correct, check the Product Terms of Service and choose Buy Now.

After a successful payment, choose Management Console to manage the EDS.

Step 2

Create users and assign cloud computers

If you did not add users during the purchase of EDS, you can also create users and assign cloud computers in the management console.

Log on to the EDS console, choose Users & Logons > Users & Organization in the left navigation bar, and then choose Create User.

You can choose to create users either manually or in batch. We will demonstrate how to manually create a user-activated account.

Select User-activated as the user type, and enter the username and email.

Optional(Other), Parent Organization, Grant Admin Permission, and Password Validity are optional fields.

By default, new accounts are granted local admin permissions, and the password is set to never expire.

Choose Create User, the entered username and email information will appear in the list below.

Choose Close to return to the previous page.

In the list, check the newly created user and choose View/Assign Cloud Computer (Pool).

In the View/Assign Cloud Computer Pool page, select the region where the cloud computer is located and the correct office network.

In the list of allocatable cloud computers, check the cloud computer to be assigned, and choose Assign.

Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client and connect to cloud computer

EDS supports access via Windows, macOS, web and mobile clients, as well as various hardware terminals.

The following example will illustrate how to log on to the client and connect to cloud computer using the macOS client.

After the user is created, the user will receive the office network, username, and initial password via email.

Using the link in the email or go to the EDS client download page from the product page, download and install the macOS client.

Open the macOS client, enter the office network ID from the email, and proceed to the next step.

Enter the username and initial password from the email and proceed to the next step.

Upon first login, you will be prompted to reset your password. Enter the new password and choose Confirm.

Once you have successfully logged in, the cloud computer will be displayed in a card format. Choose Start.

After a short wait, choose Connect Cloud Computer to start using the cloud computer.
